iOS 10.2 does not allow copying movies to iPhone and iPad

iOS 10.2 does not allow copying movies to the iPhone or iPad for playback in the TV application, users being forced to give up this functionality.

iOS 10.2 does not allow copying movies, pirated or copied from own DVDs, to iPhone and iPad according to a large number of users who reported this problem on Apple's discussion forums. Users claim that until the moment of installing iOS 10.2, they could copy any kind of movie to iPhone or iPad through iTunes, regardless of where it was downloaded, but now this is no longer possible.

The change seems to be related to the TV application that Apple has implemented in iOS 10.2 for those in the US, for now, facilitating access to a variety of TV content. It would not be excluded that this application does not allow the playback of pirated content since it offers access to so many movies and TV shows that people can see by buying a subscription.

Some say that starting with iOS 10.2, Apple started a fight against pirated content that can be copied to its iDevices, but the reality could be different. Although some cannot copy pirated movies to the iPhone or iPad, others claim that the movies still appear in the TV application widget that can be activated to be visible in the Notifications Center in iOS 10.2.

Although this solution worked for some people who were able to play the pirated content on their own iDevices, for others it was not a solution. In this idea, we could talk about a bug of the TV application available starting with iOS 10.2, or an incomplete measure to block the playback of pirated video content in iDevices.

"Prior to IOS 10.2 I was able to view video I had ripped on the Videos app in IOS. The process I used was to rip the video and then import them into iTunes. Then I synced my iPhone with iTunes and my movies were downloaded and viewed using the Videos app. IOS 10.2 no longer includes the Video app and the new TV app will not allow me to watch these ripped videos.”

Those from Apple have not commented in any way on the complaints of the users and probably won't either since the situation is as delicate as possible. If things will be resolved or not, we could find out right from the moment of the release of iOS 10.2.1, or maybe even when iOS 10.3 will be available, but if Apple will block the possibility of copying pirated movies, or just copied from DVD- uri, in iDevices, then we could have a new scandal ahead.
