Samsung will release the first foldable smartphone in Q4 2017

Samsung is preparing to launch its first foldable smartphone during the fourth fiscal quarter of 2017 in markets around the world. We are talking about a smartphone that resembles the "flap" ones released many years ago, only that it would have a large, foldable AMOLED screen.

Samsung has already filed several patents to protect the technologies to be used in these smartphones since 2016. In 2017, Samsung will start production for a small number of foldable smartphones, the company testing global interest in such products before launching a larger number.

Separately from Samsung, those from Apple, LG and Microsoft have submitted for registration patents describing smartphones with similar functionality. Although those from Samsung want to launch this new foldable smartphone in 2017, there is a chance that it will not appear until 2018 if some technical problems regarding its production are not resolved.

Samsung has high hopes for these foldable smartphones, as it did for the Galaxy Edge series when it was launched on the market. If foldable smartphones will generate the same interest, then Samsung will increase production and continue to invest in the development of new models for those interested in them.

"Samsung Electronics is reportedly developing clam-type smartphones and is expected to begin small production of its first foldable model featuring a flexible AMOLED display in the fourth quarter of 2017, according to sources from Taiwan's handset supply chain. The sources pointed out that Samsung already applied patents related to foldable smartphones to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in late 2016."
