iOS 11 will bring changes for internet browsing

iOS 11 is going to bring a substantial change to the way we navigate the Internet using the Safari browser from iPhone and iPad terminals. The information is available thanks to some public changes announced by Apple for WebKIT, the platform that is the basis of the Safari browser used in iDevices, implicitly also in iOS 11.

More precisely, the changes will come for the way we scroll through the pages that the Safari browser will open in iOS 11, which will be much faster than now. From 2007 until now, Safari had about the same speed of scrolling through pages, but iOS 11 is going to change that and make scrolling much faster than before.

Basically, in iOS 11 we will do much less scrolling to get from the top to the bottom of a page, which is extremely beneficial for us. By implementing this change for iOS 11, Apple ensures that users will spend less time looking for content through pages because they will scroll less often.

The change is based on the launch of Google's AMP pages, which modify the scrolling experience in Safari, but with iOS 11 Apple intends to solve the problem. Considering that iOS 11 will be released this summer in a beta version, most users will have to wait until the fall to enjoy the change.

"In current iOS Safari, webpage scrolling is inconsistent from all other scrolling on the system. This was an intentional decision made long ago. In addition, overflow areas are consistent with the rest of the system, and thus inconsistent with top-level webpage scrolling. This is semi-accidental. In reviewing scroll rates, we concluded that the original reason was no longer a good tradeoff. Thus this change, which removed all the inconsistencies"
