Digi Mobil - The 5G network is under development

Digi Mobil announced the launch of its own 5G network in Romania thanks to a partnership it will have with Ericsson for the purchase of equipment.

Digi Mobil announced yesterday the development of its own 5G network for customers in Romania, the fourth largest local telecom operator investing serious sums to create it. Those from Digi Mobil collaborate with Ericsson to develop the 5G network in Romania, so we are talking about Swedish equipment that will be used to establish the infrastructure, initially in Bucharest, then in other cities.

Digi Mobil and Ericsson signed a multi-year agreement to create the 5G network in Romania, and according to the Swedes, the first equipment will be placed by the operator in Bucharest from December. Practically, starting next month, Digi Mobil technicians will start creating the 5G network that the operator could present at the beginning of next year to the Romanian press.

Digi Mobil chose Ericsson instead of another partner to create its 5G network in Romania, apart from Bucharest, and 2 other cities will be integrated into the plans of the company owned by RCS & RDS. The agreement between Digi Mobil and Ericsson is the first of its kind between the two companies, so we are talking about the beginning of the road that could bring a better quality of services offered by the operator.

Digi Mobil will have a 5G network in Romania

Digi Mobil has a long collaboration with Huawei for the infrastructure in Romania, but it seems that for the 5G network it has chosen the services of Ericsson, which also collaborates with other operators in the country. The collaboration will allow Digi Mobil to access the so-called access nodes of Ericsson, ERS, the solution also offering the activation of 3G and 4G connectivity, so the operator's network will also be extended for these two GSM technologies.

Digi Mobil will also be able to expand the support for IoT devices thanks to these new Ericsson hardware solutions, but it is hard to say what will happen from this point of view. Digi Mobil already has quite big problems with its mobile phone network, which is the weakest in the country, but it is also the cheapest, with the largest number of benefits offered, so it is normal to have very high congestion.

Digi Mobil will start installing equipment for its 5G network this year, but it is hard to say how long it will take to launch the network in Bucharest. Considering that other operators in Romania have announced that they will offer 5G services from 2020, we can expect that Digi Mobil will not offer anything before this period, so you should not get your hopes up now.
