Apple wants OLED screens for iPhone X from LG

iPhone X will have OLED screens produced by the LG company starting in 2018, Apple being in advanced discussions with the Korean company for collaboration.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), pulls on LG to complete its factories where it produces OLED screens to be able to integrate in iPhone X this essential component for the iPhones that they sell globally. Those from LG have not yet managed to complete the production lines for OLED screens, but they have discussed with Apple about collaboration and will receive contracts as soon as the production is ready to start.

Apple has been pushing LG for years to be able to produce OLED screens for the iPhone, and with the iPhone X it could not do that, but with the 2018 models those from LG should be ready. The Korean company has been investing for some time in production lines for OLED screens and they should be ready next year, and the iPhone X could benefit from them, but probably from the second part of the year.

LG is currently setting up factories where it will produce OLED screens for the iPhone X, but the process is a long one, and it will be completed in the coming months. It is estimated that the production of OLED screens for the iPhone X will start sometime during June, and 60 million screens could be produced by the end of 2018, if the production starts in time at LG.

"Regarding the OLED supply deal for Apple's iPhone X, nothing has been set in detail. When anything is confirmed in detail, we will announce it, or (otherwise an announcement will be made) in a month. A local media outlet reported that LG Display signed an OLED supply deal with Apple for iPhone X and that the firm is now setting up production equipment for iPhone X in the Paju E6 assembly line. After the setup is completed, the production would start around June."

Apple desperately needs OLED screens from LG to reduce its dependence on Samsung for this essential component of the iPhone X, and it will receive them starting next year. LG has been struggling with the production of OLED screens, but it seems determined to catch up with Samsung in this regard, although it will take some time until this happens, and we will all benefit from this change.
