The president of Apple, Tim Cook, has the first criminal complaint filed against him in the case limiting iPhone performance through iOS after the degradation of the phones' battery. We are talking about a criminal complaint filed in South Korea by an organization for the protection of consumers, local prosecutors will investigate the alleged crime complained of.
Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty is the organization that filed this criminal complaint at a prosecutor's office in Seoul, not being affiliated in any way to the government of South Korea. The prosecutors have so far refused to make any statement regarding the investigation that they should do, and they have not even offered any possible date when it could begin.
The same organization also initiated a civil lawsuit against the Apple company, in which it represents 120 dissatisfied customers, but it pales in front of the one that gathers over 370.000 customers from South Korea. If in the civil process the Apple company can only be forced to pay compensation, in the criminal investigation, Tim Cook will have to answer in person to the prosecutors during the criminal investigation, or at least that's how things should be.
"A South Korean consumer group has filed a criminal complaint against Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook over slower iPhone devices, for allegations that the firm had deliberately shortened the life of its handsets. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office declined to comment when asked if it would launch an investigation into Apple following the complaint from the consumer group."
A criminal investigation is also opened against Apple in France, where the local managers are in danger of being held criminally liable if it turns out that Apple has violated local legislation. From a simple recognition, now we have reached criminal complaints and one made even against the president of the Apple company, who certainly knew what was happening in the company he leads.
