Apple Watch had an extremely good 2017, with a sales record compared to the developments of previous years, the Apple company taking full advantage of it. According to Canalys, in 2018 Apple Watch recorded sales of 18 million units worldwide, 54% more than those recorded in 2016.
Of all the Apple Watch models sold in 2017, analysts estimate that just under 9 million were represented by the Apple Watch 3, a sign that the interest in the model was extremely high. Apple boasted a lot about the performances that the Apple Watch recorded worldwide in the last fiscal quarters, and analysts confirm this.
Apple Watch 3 proved to be extremely popular, but if the 4G model had been launched in more countries around the world, then the sales of the series would have been even better than those recorded. Apple limited the launch of the Apple Watch 3 to only a few regions on the planet, so that the phones sold extremely well there, but the unavailability in other regions affected the total sales.
"The cellular version of the Apple Watch was in strong demand in the US, Japan and Australia, where all major operators stocked it in time for the holiday season. But limited operator selection in the UK, Germany and France influenced consumer purchase decisions, and stifled the growth potential of the connected Apple Watch. Moving into new markets, such as Singapore and Hong Kong in Q1 2018, just in time for Chinese New Year, is a good move."
Apple Watch 3 surpassed all competing models in sales during 2018, but for now we don't have a comparison with what Apple's competitors have achieved. It is very possible that Xiaomi, Fitbit and Samsung are not very far from Apple, but in 2017 Apple Watch recorded higher sales than all the Swiss manufacturers of watches, smart or classic.
