Telegram could be removed from the App Store

Telegram is one of the most used messaging platforms on the planet, with hundreds of millions of users worldwide, but Apple doesn't really agree.

Telegram removed from the App Store

Telegram is going through an extremely difficult situation, the Russian authorities banned the platform in Russia two months ago, asking the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), to delete the application from the local App Store, and that started the problems. Although those from Apple have not yet deleted the Telegram application from the Russian App Store, they also do not allow the company behind it to update the application globally, and this has been happening since April.

Telegram did not provide details on the reasons behind Apple's refusal to allow the application to be updated further, but most likely everything has to do with the scandal in Russia. Telegram refused to give the Russian authorities the keys to decrypt the communications made by the users of the platform, so the application was banned by the courts, mainly because it was a paradise for drug trafficking, people, terrorists and child pornography.

Telegram could be removed from the App Store

Telegram risks being completely excluded from the App Store since Apple refuses to allow it to publish updates for the application, it was at one point removed from the store for the existence of pornographic content on the platform. Now there are no explanations regarding Apple's decision, and probably this will not change soon if the press pressure to find out answers will not be high enough.

"Unfortunately, some Telegram features, such as stickers, don't work correctly under iOS 11.4 that was just released - even though we fixed this issue weeks ago. Apple has been preventing Telegram from updating its iOS apps globally ever since the Russian authorities ordered Apple to remove Telegram from the App Store.”

Telegram has been criticized by various companies due to the fact that its discussion groups host pictures, video clips, links to websites and discussions with illegal content, but the company did not rush to do much. It is very likely that even now Apple wants to force the Telegram company to give up distribution through the App Store so that it no longer has to monitor it and protect its users from illegal content.
