Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), si Samsung they announced last night a historic decision, more precisely they reached an agreement to finally end the 7-year-old process in which they keep fighting. Samsung recently lost a new round in this legal battle and was forced by a court to pay compensation of 539 million dollars to Apple, but it appealed this decision.
Now it is not known what money Apple is going to receive as part of the agreement, those from Samsung admitting that they copied the iPhone design, but saying that the compensation should be lower. Considering this, it is very likely that a much smaller amount was agreed for payment by the two companies, and its amount will be known someday.
Apple vs. Samsung: The HISTORY Decision Taken by the Companies
Apple and Samsung refused to say the amount agreed as compensation, according to this agreement because there is no logic in announcing it, but at some point it will be disclosed from one source or another. Despite the secrecy, the fact that Apple and Samsung have reached an agreement to end the legal disputes is very important for other disputes between other companies.
"Plaintiff Apple Inc. and Defendants Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., and Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC would like to inform the Court that they have agreed to drop and settle their remaining claims and counterclaims in this matter. IT IS HEREBY STIPULATED AND AGREED, by and between the parties and subject to the approval of the Court, that pursuant to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure 41(a) and 41(c), all remaining claims and counterclaims in this action are hereby dismissed with prejudice, to the extent such are still pending, and all parties shall bear their own attorneys' fees and costs."
Although Apple has agreed to settle with Samsung to end the 7-year-old legal battle, this does not mean that it will not want to give up the services of the Koreans. It remains to be seen what the relationship between Apple and Samsung will be in the coming years, but the tension between the companies will remain at a high level, as it was during this period.
