Electric cars that will be sold in Europe will have to emit sounds when they approach pedestrians, according to new European regulations. According to the rules imposed by the European Commission, all electric cars will emit sounds like the ones below if their speed drops below 19 KM/h.
Current electric cars do not emit a loud enough noise for a pedestrian to realize that one is approaching him, but this will no longer be a problem. The European Commission found the solution by imposing the playback of these sounds when the cars are driving slowly, and by 2021 all models that circulate on the streets will have to have them.
The measure taken by the European Commission is one that does not please everyone, because some have requested that electric cars emit sounds at any speed. Of course, it is impossible for such sounds to play all the time, because the drivers would go crazy, but even at low speeds, some will be very annoyed.
New regulations will require all new electric vehicles to feature a warning noise to alert pedestrians and cyclists.
