Nokia, or better said HMD Global, is no longer that brand that was equivalent to the largest phone manufacturer in the world, now a Finnish company is using it to sell smartphones. Although its sales are still nowhere near those of the former Nokia, phones sold under this brand continue to grow in sales every fiscal quarter, and there's a very good reason for that, putting Samsung and Huawei to shame.
Nokia offers Android updates much faster than Samsung, Huawei, or Xiaomi, and has the most users on the latest versions of the operating system, according to a recently published study. You can see in the image below that 96% of Nokia phone users run Android 9, while in the case of Samsung the percentage is 89%, in the case of Xiaomi it is 84%, and in the case of Huawei it drops to 82%.
Nokia HUMBLE Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO with Phones
Beyond Huawei, the difference between Nokia and the rest of the manufacturers is colossal, none of them being able to offer Android 9 to at least half of the customers who bought their phones. The situation is extremely bad for those with phones from OPPO or Vivo, who sell about 100 million phones each year, but who do not offer Android updates on time, so they do not care about the customers who bring them money.
Although Nokia has the most customers who have Android 9 in their phones now, it takes the Finns half a year to bring the updates to half of the phones in their portfolio, although they are not many. "Following them is the flood", and this is because times are growing exponentially for the other manufacturers, and Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc., show their full disdain for customers with the very late updates they offer.
That said, if you're thinking of buying a new Android phone, think about how long you'll have to wait for the latest updates for your phone.
