The sale of Telekom to Orange is BLOCKED by a MAJOR PROBLEM

Telekom has the sale to Orange blocked by a major problem that neither of the two telecommunication operators can solve now.

telekom orange sale blocked

Telekom wants to sell its fixed services division to those from Orange as soon as possible, and a month ago there was a meeting between the representatives of several state institutions, who discussed the purchase that Orange will make. The problem is that nothing seems to have happened since then, so the Romanian state has not yet approved the sale of Telekom to Orange, and as things stand, this will not happen soon.

Telekom owns in partnership with the Romanian state both the fixed services division and the mobile services division, so without their approval it can do absolutely nothing to complete the transaction with Orange. Considering that we still do not have a new Government of Romania after a censure motion dismissed the old one, the chances that the sale of Telekom's fixed services division to Orange will take place in 2019 are decreasing more and more.

The sale of Telekom to Orange is BLOCKED by a MAJOR PROBLEM

Orange did not have much to say in this situation, and just like Telekom, it is waiting for a decision from the Romanian state, which also has the right of pre-emption to buy the shares held by the Germans in the fixed services division. It is improbable that this will happen, because the Romanian state does not have the money of those from Orange to buy those shares from Telekom, but it keeps everything in place because at the moment the attention of those there is in a completely different direction.

Telekom cannot sell its mobile services division too easily either, and this is because the fixed services division owns a part of the mobile one, so that RCS & RDS cannot buy without the consent of the state, or perhaps of Orange. The situation is so complicated that the initial information regarding reaching an agreement between Telekom and Orange did not present the entire complexity of the sale that was announced.

Telekom will probably sell its fixed services division to those from Orange, but it will be quite some time before this happens, especially if the European Commission will also have to analyze the transaction.
