Telekom: The sale to Orange is deadlocked, WHY is everything BLOCKED

Telekom has the sale to Orange at an impasse, here's why everything is blocked at the moment and what the operators must do next in Romania.

telecom impasse sale orange

Telekom has the sale to Orange at a great impasse at the moment, and this is because the Romanian Government has not yet given any response to the notification regarding this transaction. The Romanian government must first approve the transaction, and this is because it is a shareholder in the fixed services division of Telekom, and has the right of pre-emption, which means it can buy the Germans' shares with priority.

Telekom wanted to solve as quickly as possible the problem of the sale to those from Orange, but unfortunately the Romanian Government has completely different priorities at the moment, being more involved in taking over the vacant ministries. Not even in the period immediately following the completion of the presidential elections in Romania, nothing will change, and this is because there are many other problems much more important than the sale of Telekom to Orange.

Telekom is still waiting for the Romanian Government

Telekom must initially wait for approval from the Romanian Government, but that's not all, because it also needs approval from the European Commission to finalize its plans. The transaction is a very important one because it involves 4.6 million customers and a vast infrastructure, so the simple agreements between Telekom and Orange will not be enough to finalize the agreement, the European Commission also having to give its approval.

Orange has not said anything about this transaction, only confirming that it wants to buy the mobile services division of Telekom to fill a big "hole" in the infrastructure for fixed services. Many people already knew that Orange is in great need of the fiber optic infrastructure, and not only, of those from Telekom in order to offer its converged fixed-mobile services in Romania, as it does in other areas of Europe.

Telekom hopes to obtain several billion euros from the sale of the fixed and mobile services divisions in Romania, and although it quickly reached an agreement with Orange, the negotiation with RCS & RDS is not so simple, unfortunately.
