Apple could CHALLENGE Russia on the Crimean Peninsula

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), was severely criticized the other day by the whole world after it started to display in Apple Maps the Crimean peninsula as a region belonging to Russia, not Ukraine. Many people, from diplomats to ordinary people, criticized Apple's decision to give in to Russia's pressure to categorize Crimea as a region that belongs to it.

Faced with all these complaints, those from Apple said today that they will analyze the geopolitical situation in the area more carefully, to see what is the correct solution. Basically, Apple says that it could change the way Crimea is presented in the Apple Maps application so that the world no longer complains about the fact that the region annexed by Russia is not presented as belonging to Ukraine.

Apple said that it is obliged by Russian law to present Crimea to its citizens as a region belonging to the country, but the rest of the world will see it as belonging to Ukraine. Apple says that it negotiated for several months with Russia in order not to end up in a situation where it marks Crimea in this way, but it failed to find a compromise solution.

“We review international law, as well as relevant domestic and US laws before making a decision to label our Maps and make changes if required by law. It's our intention to make sure our customers can enjoy using Maps and other Apple services anywhere in the world."
