Romanian Government: IMPORTANT meetings for the SALE of Telekom to Orange

The Romanian government had very important meetings with representatives of Orange and Telekom to discuss the sale of the fixed services division in 2020.

The Government of Romania, led by Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, was visited by the people who made the decisions in the negotiations regarding the purchase of Telekom's fixed services division by Orange. A few weeks ago, the man in charge of Deutsche Telekom's business in this part of Europe met at the Romanian Government building with Ludovic Orban to discuss the transaction that has been pending for several months, waiting for a decision from the executive.

The Romanian government changed this fall, so the decision to approve the sale of Telekom's landline division to Orange was passed from PSD to PNL, and now the new ministers are getting information about the transaction from the companies. Yesterday the people from Orange went to the Romanian Government to talk with Ludovic Orban, the CEO of the local subsidiary, Liudmila Climoc, and Jean-Marc Vignolles, who deals with the group's operations in Europe, being present at the discussions.

The Romanian government did not give details about what was discussed at these meetings, but it is as clear as possible that they talked about the sale of Telekom to Orange and the unblocking of the process itself. The Romanian government owns a 46% stake in the fixed division of Telekom, and the latter owns 30% of the shares of the mobile division, and the Romanian state has the right to first buy Deutsche Telekom's stake, so it could take total control over Romania.

Until now, it was expected that the Romanian Government would make a decision regarding the purchase of these shares, but considering the budget problems, it is improbable that the Romanian state will buy any share in Telekom. Considering this situation, the Romanian Government will most likely approve the sale of Telekom to Orange, and the representatives of the companies requested, most likely, to speed up the bureaucracy so that the transaction takes place faster.

The Romanian government has not yet had discussions with RCS & RDS, or the foreign investment fund, which are interested in buying the mobile division of Telekom, so new information on this matter is expected with great interest.
