Romania: The SPECIAL 112 technology with which STS locates you

STS geolocation 112

STS has implemented for the 112 emergency service in Romania a special technology that aims to provide much more accurate location for those who call from smart mobile phones, it being an alternative for AML and the APEL 112 application.

STS says that this technology, which is called Geolocation 112, is designed to send an SMS to the caller's phone, and when it is accessed, the caller's location information is automatically sent to the 112 servers.

112 a technology has been implemented here that replaces the AML one on certain phone models, which sends an SMS to the STS operator when we initiate the call, only that in the current situation the caller must access a link for the phone to do this.

STS it doesn't say if this technology is only used on Android phones, where such an implementation is possible, or on the iPhone, where normally phones don't send SMS alone based on accessing a website, but I think it's only about the first situation .

"Complementary to the APEL 112 mobile application, STS has implemented the Geolocation 112 facility. The caller receives a location link via SMS, and by accessing it, the geographical coordinates of the place where the caller is located are sent to the 112 System."

STS is now also working on the implementation of AML technology in Romania, testing it in the Bucharest and Ilfov areas on Android phones, and soon it will extend the testing to the whole country, maybe even on iPhone phones, although it is possible that Apple's help will also be needed there .
