RCS & RDS alternative

RCS & RDS he made a decision that brings an extremely big change for millions of his clients in Romania, and it's something we talked about in the past, and now we see the scope of things. At the end of last year, RCS & RDS took the decision to invest in a new 2G network in Romania, one that has now reached to cover very large areas of the country, but did not offer any official explanation regarding the reason real reason behind this very important decision.

RCS & RDS wanted to buy the mobile telephony division of those from Telekom, which would have also brought him a 2G network, and it is possible that the decision to make his own infrastructure of this kind was taken because he could not buy what he wanted, still. Officially, we do not have a real reason for the decision to invest in this network, but it is known that RCS & RDS has problems with the signal in buildings, and the 2G network solves the situation, and is cheaper to build and expand than 3G and 4G.

RCS & RDS alternative to 2G
RCS & RDS 2G network coverage on April 5, 2020.

RCS & RDS it currently covers a good part of the southern area, from Mangalia, Constanta, Tulcea and up to Orsova, covering a very large part of the southern area, less the western one. The network rises towards the center to Barlad and Onesti, but it stops there, and continues in the north-west, from Sighisoara and to the borders of the country in the north-west, the central part of the north of the country, and the west of Romania, after as you can see from the map above.

RCS & RDS it uses old 2G technologies for the network, so theoretically the equipment should be cheap, the internet being completely useless, but the voice part is the one that counts. RCS & RDS can offer with the 2G network coverage in areas where it does not have 3G and 4G, and inside buildings it can offer a much stronger signal than in the case of the other 2, or 5G, the benefit is fixed here, in offering voice services with signal better, not counting the internet.

RCS & RDS expanded this network extraordinarily quickly, in just six months managing to cover what seems to be over a third of the country, and by the end of 2020 it could even cover more than half, if the Coronavirus allows it.
