Android: SURPRISE at the End of the Year, Global Change

Android was at the center of a surprise at the end of 2019, here's what unexpected change took place at the global level, and how iOS is also involved.

Android drop

Android it is by far the most used operating system for phones, tablets, and not only, globally, but at the end of 2019 a very interesting surprise was noticed. According to Statista, at the end of 2019, Android's market share fell in relation to that of iOS, globally, by almost two percentage points, something that is not quite so common, in 2018 the situation was completely different for the two operating systems.

Android fell at the end of 2019 from a market share of 75.8% globally, to 74.1%, iOS assimilating all this loss, even taking a little from other operating systems for electronic devices. The situation is completely different from the end of 2018, when Android took over two percentage points from iOS during the winter holidays, between November and December, which shows us that the end of 2019 was won by Apple.

Android: SURPRISE at the End of the Year, Global Change

Android and iOS together account for almost 99% of the total global electronic device market, and between the two operating systems there is a constant "dance" in terms of the level of use. The difference at the end of 2019 can be explained by an increase in sales of iDevices and a decrease in sales of Android devices, especially since Huawei did not exactly have a very good period, and its competitors did not too taken advantage of it.

Android it still remains with a market share 3 times higher than that of OS, and with a number of active devices that is as many times higher, which in the end is perfectly normal. Android will never be overtaken by iOS in terms of market share as long as Apple does not "open" its operating system to other manufacturers, but the decrease at the end of 2019 is an interesting and unusual one, and at beginning of 2020 we could see something similar.

Android it will still remain the preferred operating system of mobile phone manufacturers, it will continue to be widely used, but the Coronavirus could bring further decreases in its market share.
