DIGI Mobile: Official Decision, Impact on Millions of Customers

DIGI Mobile replacement

DIGI Mobil is one of the largest telecommunications operators in all of Romania, with almost 4 million customers who use its services, the numbers being constantly growing. Until the end of last month, the people from DIGI Mobil announced about once every 2/3 weeks new improvements for the mobile telecommunications infrastructure in Romania, but more than a month has already passed since they did not confirm the fact that they are still in the process of continuing to improve the infrastructure.

DIGI Mobil has not invested in its 5G infrastructure for more than a year, and this is because it was waiting for a decision from the Romanian Government regarding the licenses for this infrastructure, but also regarding Huawei. This decision came, and it was precisely the one that the telecommunications industry did not want, that is, the use of Huawei's 5G equipment in 5G networks is very unlikely to be allowed, and not only DIGI Mobil will be affected by this situation.

DIGI Mobile: Official Decision, Impact on Millions of Customers

DIGI Mobil could still have much bigger problems if it is required to replace Huawei equipment from the current infrastructures, as happened in many other countries, including the USA. Those from RCS & RDS have already requested money from the Romanian Government to replace the Huawei equipment in the existing infrastructure of DIGI Mobil, and it is possible that the investments in improving the existing network will stop for a good period of time.

DIGI Mobil has little reason to invest in its mobile infrastructure if it will be forced to replace the existing equipment with new ones in just a few months or a few years. It is possible that the decision to pause investments in equipment has already been taken by DIGI Mobil, and this could seriously affect customers throughout the country, but for now not many details are known about what is happening inside the company.

DIGI Mobil uses a lot of Huawei equipment in its telecommunications infrastructure, just as RCS & RDS uses them to provide services for its customers all over Romania.
