Orange: Official Announcement with a Surprise Including RCS & RDS

Latent orange

Orange is one of the largest telecommunications groups in Romania, with over 10 million customers of fixed and mobile services, and in the coming weeks it is preparing to complete the acquisition of the Telekom fixed division. Until then, those from Orange decided to present, in this page, a certification offered by Ookla for the performance it would offer for customers who use its fixed internet services in Romania.

Orange is used to publishing this kind of information regularly for a year or so now, all to show how good its services are, but also how good those of RCS & RDS actually are. Ookla, the company that owns Speedtest, says that Orange was the telecommunications group declared the "winner" in a check of fixed internet speeds offered in Romania, but those from RCS & RDS were not far behind and even surpassed the French group in certain tests.

Orange: Official Announcement with a Surprise Including RCS & RDS

Orange fixed internet latency

Orange boasts that it has the fastest internet in Romania, with download speeds reaching up to 655.93 Mbps on average, followed by RCS & RDS with speeds up to 614.86 Mbps, the rest being far away. In terms of upload speeds, or average latencies, Orange is surpassed by RCS & RDS, even with a 2.5 times higher latency, but the difference between the tests made for their infrastructures is greater, here it is 20x, in total .

Orange boasts maximum download speeds after 33.000 tests performed in the first 6 months of 2021, while in the case of RCS & RDS, 654.939 tests were recorded in the same period. Despite the difference between the number of tests, Ookla explains why it placed Orange as the winner, the greatest emphasis being placed on download speeds, not on uploads and latencies, because people mainly feel the download speeds when they use the Internet.

Orange has without question the best mobile phone network in Romania, but when it comes to the fixed internet, it's a bit difficult to properly compare the differences with such large discrepancies between the tests done.
