The Romanian Police warns Romanians from all over the country about the car frauds that are taking place in Romania during this period and offers some advice to avoid falling into the trap of those who want to take advantage of people's trust.
"CAREFUL! Online Car Sales Scams!
Recently, several cases of fraud have been reported through online car sales ads.
The registered damages reach tens of thousands of euros, the last reported case being approximately 80.000 euros.
Mode of operation?
After posting ads for the sale of cars on well-known platforms, potential customers are asked to transfer sums of money in order to reserve them. The "sold" cars are shown to be located on the territory of other countries in Europe, and, at the conclusion of the transaction, amounts related to the transport to Romania are also requested.
Money is transferred from one account to another, being withdrawn, without the sale-purchase transaction actually taking place.
