Coronavirus Romania Huge Number of Infections Officially Announced October 23, 2021

A huge new number of coronavirus infections was officially announced by the Romanian authorities for October 23, 2021, so that in the last 24 hours, no less than 15.261 cases of infection among people were confirmed throughout the country.

Today's figures are only slightly lower than those announced last week, and this is the third day in which the differences compared to the previous week are extremely small, a sign that it is possible to have reached a plateau in the 4th wave of the pandemic of the Coronavirus.

Hospitals are still overcrowded, with extremely many people admitted to ATI and hundreds of daily deaths, but the vaccination campaign against the Coronavirus has recorded record numbers in recent days, and they will continue as more and more people are immunized.

The final figures will be announced after 13:00 by the authorities.

"Until today, 1.550.203 cases of infection with the new coronavirus have been registered in Romania, of which 6.975 are of re-infected patients, tested positive more than 180 days after the first infection.

1.313.756 patients were declared cured.

Until today, 44.290 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the interval 22.10.2021 (10:00) – 23.10.2021 (10:00) 446 deaths (221 men and 225 women), of which 9 before the reference interval, of patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in hospitals in Alba, Arad, Argeș, Bacău, Bistrita-Năsăud, Bihor, Botoșani, Brașov, Brăila, Buzău, Călărași, Caraș-Severin, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galați, Giurgiu, Gorj, Harghita, Hunedoara, Ialomița, Iasi, Ilfov, Maramureș, Mehedinți, Mureș, Neamț, Olt, Prahova, Sălaj, Sibiu, Suceava, Teleorman, Timiș, Tulcea, Vaslui, Vrancea and the City of Bucharest.

Among the 446 deaths, 2 were registered in the age category 20-29 years, 7 in the age category 30-39 years, 13 in the age category 40-49 years, 45 in the age category 50-59 years, 119 in the age category 60-69 years, 146 in the age category 70-79 years and 114 in the age category over 80 years.

407 of the recorded deaths are of patients who had comorbidities, 26 deceased patients had no comorbidities, and for 13 deceased patients no comorbidities have been reported to date.

9 deaths were reported prior to the reference interval, occurring in the counties of Buzău, Constanța, Dolj, Gorj, Neamț, Prahova and Suceava, 2 in September 2021 and 7 in October 2021. 437 deaths were reported in the reference interval.

Of the total of 446 deceased patients, 413 were unvaccinated and 34 vaccinated. The 34 deceased vaccinated patients were between the age groups of 20-29 years and over 80 years. 33 of the deceased vaccinated patients had comorbidities, and 1 deceased patient had no comorbidities.

In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 19.823. Of these, 1.854 are hospitalized at ATI.

Out of the total of hospitalized patients, 458 are minors, 417 being hospitalized in wards and 41 in ATI.

Until this date, at the national level, 10.141.310 RT-PCR tests and 4.152.231 rapid antigen tests have been processed. In the last 24 hours, 25.480 RT-PCR tests (12.080 based on case definition and medical protocol and 13.400 on request) and 46.698 rapid antigen tests were performed.

On the territory of Romania, 145.563 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 18.837 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 57.338 people are in home quarantine, and 98 people are in institutionalized quarantine."
