DIGI Mobil is one of the largest telecommunications operators in all of Romania at the moment, the company having over 4 million subscribers in all the counties of the country, and their number continues to grow.
DIGI Mobil has made substantial investments in order to reach such a number of customers, but one area in which it has stopped investing for almost 2 years is the one related to the 5G network, which has not progressed at all in the last almost 2 years.
DIGI Mobil initially invested serious sums in its 5G network in Romania, but everything stopped a year after Huawei started having problems with the USA.
DIGI Mobil also took into account the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, but also the fact that the Romanian Government does not allow the use of Huawei equipment in 5G telecommunications networks, and ANCOM has not yet auctioned the frequencies on the basis of which the future networks will be made.
DIGI Mobil decided to stop the development of its 5G network, although it has enough localities in the country where it offers coverage, and the measure is contrary to those taken by Orange or Vodafone, for example.
Telekom does not have any telecommunications network in Romania at the moment, but DIGI Mobil has about the third largest, if I'm not mistaken, and that's because it's hard to say what Vodafone has, since it doesn't say much about investments.
DIGI Mobil has not spoken for over 1 year about the evolution of its 5G network, although it is clearly a very important element of the company's future strategy, but it is not clear what role it will play.
As long as the Romanian state does not auction the frequencies for 5G networks, it is quite clear that neither this operator owned by RCS & RDS, nor others, will be so eager to make serious investments in 5G networks. from the country.
5G networks have advanced slowly at the global level, and this is because of the Coronavirus pandemic, mainly, the entire evolution of humanity based on them being to the greatest extent blocked by the pandemic.
