Telekom Romania and Deutsche Telekom support the volunteering of Generation Z

Telekom Romania has announced a new campaign supporting the volunteering of Generation Z in Romania, saying that social or environmental issues are very important for young people, and you can read more details about the initiative below right now.

"Telekom Romania Mobile, together with Detusche Telekom, aims to support volunteering among Generation Z, for whom involvement in social or environmental issues is very important.

82% of Gen Zers globally say they are active in one way or another when it comes to advocacy and activism, with the biggest motivation being impacting their community, friends and family.

#WhatWeValue is a free-to-access global digital platform where socially engaged Gen Z communities can connect, learn from leaders with experience in social action, amplify their own volunteer projects, discover opportunities and have the chance to gain additional personalized and individualized support from Telekom. The platform uses NFT technology to transform digital connectivity into real value.

A digital community and an NFT for "good"

The platform is open to volunteer project leaders aged 18-30 from all over Europe to host their own volunteer projects. Projects that meet the necessary criteria will be featured in the platform. Among the diverse categories for which projects are accepted are gender, racial and social equality, the defense of the rights of people with disabilities, climate change, urban regeneration, migration and many others.

Once verified, project leaders receive a “Value”, a POAP NFT that gives them exclusive access to valuable resources, including a Discord group dedicated to talks and live conversations with volunteer experts such as Bart Staszewsk, hosted by Jacqueline Azah. A POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol) NFT is an NFT that proves participation in a project or experience and does not have a negative impact on the environment like other NFTs.

"Through this program, Telekom Mobile will provide tangible support to the winning projects, directly contributing to the strengthening of their volunteering causes. The company has already committed itself to providing real support for important projects, by creating a dedicated digital campaign to recruit volunteers, to stimulate participation and supply specialized equipment", said Ruxandra Rău, Director of Brand & Communication Strategy, Telekom Romania Mobile.

Making an impact in the real world

The online community #WhatWeValue can "stimulate" (like, share and follow) the presented projects, which has an impact on the "value" (ranking) of the project as a whole. At the end of each month, the two "most valuable" projects will receive personalized support from Telekom Mobile to support their causes.
After a "silent" launch in June 2022, the platform is already home to more than 50 diverse projects from more than 10 different countries: from the first Polish foundation fighting poverty and social exclusion to a team using Artificial Intelligence to support children with speech and hearing impairments from the Czech Republic or a platform used by visually impaired people to discover new friends and experiences in Romania.

"We are constantly surprised by this socially conscious and action-oriented generation," says Ulrich Klenke, Chief Brand Officer at Deutsche Telekom. “Volunteering is a key example of how young people are using connected technologies to create real-world action and change our lives for the better. We call this "digital optimism". With #WhatWeValue, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to Gen Z by leveraging web3 technologies to supercharge the causes that matter most to them.”
#WhatWeValue will be supported by a series of activities hosted on the social media site Discord. Over 12 weeks there will be a series of talks, conversations and inspiring stories from youth volunteering experts such as Amy & Ella Meek and more.

An ongoing commitment

The platform is part of an ongoing program of activities that Deutsche Telekom has developed specifically to give young people the opportunity to develop themselves through connected technologies. As part of an ongoing commitment to support Generation Z, #WhatWeValue follows Telekom's #WhatWeDoNext and #WeAreFutureproof campaigns, both of which highlight the unique value of the first generation of true digital natives in building a better world.

The digital campaign will be launched with a film directed by the award-winning Oliva Kastebring, in which real young volunteers appear and who rely on the acronym "NFT" to create an emotional connection with the true potential of web technologies3. The film will be broadcast on social media platforms relevant to Gen Z, including Instagram, Twitch, Snapchat, Spotify and Tik Tok.

"Despite facing huge societal challenges, the young generation takes social responsibility seriously – they campaign, campaign, strive and act to bring about the real change they want to see in the world," said Jacqueline Azah, youth activist and supporter of the project. "There is often a perception that online does not bring about real change in the world, but in reality, connected technology has made the possibilities for voluntary action infinite."
