Adrian Marinescu: The announcement about New Restrictions and the 6th Wave of COVID in Romania

Adrian Marinescu, medical director of the Matei Bals Institute in Bucharest, talks to Romanians about the 6th wave of infections generated by the Coronavirus, a very serious problem that Romania is starting to face, saying that he does not think there will be any more restrictions imposed by the authorities .

Adrian Marinescu says, however, that the mask could become mandatory again in closed spaces if the number of cases will be very high, but that mainly they expect to follow recommendations, as happens in other countries, excluding new movement restrictions, and not only.

"The BA.5 subvariant is predominant, probably also in Romania, not only, and if it is predominant, it really means that there are many cases, and it explains a wave at a given time, for BA.5 it is the explanation for wave 6, no only in Romania. All viral variants are contagious, starting with Omicron even more so.

When we talk about coexistence, if we reach the point where 99% are forms that do not raise problems, and there are less than 1% forms that require hospitalization, would it still be a real problem, would it still complicate people's lives? There would be 3 things to say, I don't think there will be restrictions, and not only in Romania. What was seen punctually in Cyprus and in other places is only the part related to the mask.

I think the recommendation is enough, because when one of us is vulnerable, and knows that he has a risk of developing complications, and goes into a closed space with an infection space, I don't think he should be forced someone, there is protection for him, and this is a recommendation. The second thing, throughout the pandemic, the big problem was related to import cases.

It is in vain that you create a system in your country, if cases come from abroad. The third thing, I think that if it gets to the point where people are responsible for protecting their health, things will happen by themselves. The Swedish model, by definition even before the pandemic, was that people do not go to crowded areas, and it was easy for them when the pandemic came.

People can go on vacation, but if you are vulnerable, good, safe, you go on vacation, but when you are 70 years old and have many chronic diseases, you put on a mask at the airport, you put a mask on the plane, and you will wear it correct. We are talking about closed spaces, so I think that caution can exist, and it won't spoil your vacation anyway."
