Romania is the first country in the EU with a Long-Term Plan for the Integration of Ukrainian Refugees

Romania officially announced today that it is becoming the first country in the European Union to think of a medium and long-term vision and strategy for the integration of refugees from Ukraine in partnership with the UN and under the coordination of UNHCR Romania.

Romania becomes the first country in the European Union to have a medium and long-term vision and plan regarding how we will support refugees from Ukraine to integrate and become independent in our country.

The national plan for the protection and inclusion measures of people displaced from Ukraine receiving temporary protection in Romania, launched today, which we recently approved in the Government, by emergency ordinance, and the Response Plan to the humanitarian crisis of refugees in Ukraine developed and approved based on the partnership with United Nations agencies, under the coordination of UNHCR Romania.

We are thus coming up with concrete support measures in the field of education, health, employment, housing, children and vulnerable groups, for which we have allocated a budget from both European and public funds, through which we will help the refugees from Ukraine to integrate as easily as possible in our country and acquire their personal independence without feeling the effects of the war in their country.

Together, the two plans represent Romania's response to the refugee humanitarian crisis in the medium and long term and open the horizon of a good practice and strategic approach at the European level.

I would like to thank all those who got involved in this joint "whole society response" type effort, which involved the involvement of specialists from five ministries, the UN agencies present in Romania, all the European Union institutions that were and are present in Romania and of the entire civil society, in a coordination and dialogue formula that we assumed at the Government level through the Prime Minister's Office.

I will manifest In continuation the same support and openness and I once again welcome the availability shown from the beginning by the citizens of Romania, the non-governmental organizations and all those who showed solidarity. with the Ukrainian people so tried by this illegal, unprovoked war of Russia in Ukraine.
