The European Commission has taken the decision to suspend the agreement with Russia regarding the facilitation of the issuance of visas for the citizens of the European Union and those of the Russian Federation, and this because the large number of Russian citizens who started entering the community space after the outbreak of the war represents a security risk .

The European Commission announced this historic decision following an informal meeting between the ministers of foreign affairs from the countries that are part of the European Union, but the issuance of visas for Russian citizens is not completely eliminated, but the process of granting them is made much more difficult.

"We have noticed a substantial increase in border crossing points from Russia to neighboring states. This becomes a security risk. Therefore, today we agree with EU foreign ministers on the complete suspension of the EU-Russia visa facilitation agreement."
