The USA was surprised by Ukraine's decision to request NATO membership after Vladimir Putin signed the documents annexing the 4 regions in Ukraine where illegal referendums were held, which would not be a very big surprise for many people, because the Ukrainians made many decisions without consulting anyone.
The USA still says that it will continue to support Ukraine's democracy and independence from Russia, so despite this decision of the Ukrainians, nothing will change in terms of the way NATO chooses its members, or the help it will provide for country in the following years.
