Apple begins to investigate the problems caused by the MacDefender malware

A few weeks ago we told you about Mac Defender, a new type of malware that hit Mac owners. We are talking about malware that must be built to look like an antivirus downloaded and executed by the user in Mac OS X, otherwise it is harmless, but even under these conditions there are many Mac owners who have serious problems with it. For several days, Apple Care employees have been bombarded with calls from customers who have been infected with this virus and do not know how to remove it from their Mac. Apple's policy is not to help customers with this kind of problem, but in some Apple call centers certain employees have provided support with the consent of their bosses. The problem became so big that a journalist started to talk about it investigate and managed to talk to several Apple Care call center operators who said that the number of calls related to this problem has increased at an alarming rate.

There's usually about 600 or so of us spread around 14 centers for CPU support. Before this started happening, we had 7-12 minutes between calls generally. Now we're lucky to have any time between calls.

We started getting a trickle of calls a couple of weeks ago. However, this last week over 50% of our calls have been about it. In two days last week I personally took 60 calls that referred to Mac Defender.

Moreover, on Apple's discussion forums there are many topics in which Mac users try to solve the problem but without much success. Within the Apple Mac Defender went under SUPERVISION engineers who deal with Mac OS X security and will probably release a method to solve the problem soon. Below is a video clip that will tell you how to delete this malware from your Mac if you have already been infected.
