HackStore – the future of Cydia for Mac

For iOS we have Cydia, a virtual store of applications and tweaks that allow us to greatly expand the functionality of our iDevices without taking a lot of money out of our pockets. For Mac there is no such thing because Apple's operating system is free, it allows us to do whatever we want, but this freedom could be forgotten in the near future because Apple intends to introduce GateKeeper, a system that will block the installation of some applications. GateKeeper will not be mandatory at first, but everyone says that Apple will impose it in Mac OS X to better control the operating system.

Because the Mac will need Cydia, but also because the Mac App Store does not offer enough opportunities to promote/discover applications, we will have HackStore. Hack Store it will be a virtual application store where developers will be able to list all kinds of packages that will work on Macs and will probably extend the functionality of computers produced by Apple. HackStore is designed by a Russian who recently moved to the USA and at the moment he is completing the project before the official opening and some of his friends are working on the first applications that will be listed there.

The HackStore is currently built out of passion, but soon it could become a necessity if Apple decides to close OS X and force users to turn to jailbreak to install any kind of applications on their computers. HackStore will be open in the near future and I will keep you updated with everything you need to know about it.
