Facebook Messenger it was downloaded over 1 billion times only on Google's Android platform, the application having over 600 million monthly active users worldwide. Although the figure is much lower than the total number of downloads for the Android platform alone, it is still surprising and very close to that of WhatsApp Messenger, the most used messaging network on the planet.
Considering that Facebook Messenger has been downloaded more than 1 billion times on the Android platform alone, the total number of downloads on all platforms is, most likely, much higher than that reported by Google Play.
Unfortunately for the App Store, we do not have visible figures regarding the total downloads of the applications, but there is a very high chance that over several hundred million downloads have been recorded for Facebook Messenger so far.
By registering the billion downloads, the Facebook Messenger application is now part of a select "club" of applications that have reached such a large number of installations on Android terminals worldwide.
The announcement regarding exceeding the number of downloads was made by David Marcus, the man who leads the development division of the Facebook Messenger application, and as the number increases we will find out new information.
