Tim Cook: Apple Watch sales exceeded expectations

Tim Cook Apple WatchLast night Apple announced its financial results for Q3 2015, and many expected the first figures for sales Apple Watch to be announced by those from Cupertino, but of course this has not happened yet.

Apple has grouped Apple Watch sales into named product categories Other, Other, from his tax returns, sales in this category increased by 56% compared to the previous fiscal quarter, reaching the value of 2.6 billion dollars, and some believed that this difference was due to Apple Watch sales.

In a simple calculation, the increase is 952 million dollars and although the idea that the Apple Watch would be responsible for the entire amount was discussed, Tim Cook made it clear that in fact the watch had much better sales and the receipts for them would be much bigger.

Tim Cook stated that the Apple Watch had a much better launch than the first models of the iPhone or iPad, and combining these statements with others regarding the revenues in the Other category, analysts say that the Apple Watch would have generated revenues of over 1.4 billion of dollars.

Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri told The Associated Press that revenue from the watch was "well over" that $952 million increase. He said the category also includes revenue from iPods and accessories, whose sales fell in the quarter. "We beat our internal expectations" for the watch, Maestri said, adding that the number of watches sold in the first nine weeks was greater than the number of iPhones or iPads that the company sold in a comparable period after those products were launched.

The number is high for a smartwatch, especially since until now Apple's competitors have had great problems selling smart watches and none of them have announced that they have collected 1 billion dollars in a fiscal quarter from the sale of such a product.

Now, assuming that a Apple Watch has an average selling price close to the value of 500 dollars, we can conclude that approximately 3 million Apple Watches were sold in Q2 2015, even though the product was actually available in stores only two weeks out of the 3 months.

The Apple Watch is presented by the Apple company as having a great success, Tim Cook denying the rumors regarding a considerable decrease in demand for the Apple Watch, so it remains to be seen how the product will evolve.
