Google will copy a feature that Apple has barely announced

Last night the Apple company announced that it will reduces the commission charged for subscriptions sold through applications for iPhone, iPad or Mac, with Americans following a keeps only 15% of the price of a subscription, but only if the developer convinces the client to keep the subscription for at least 1 year.

At the moment Apple charges 30% of the price of a subscription as a commission sold through an application available in the App Store, the commission to be halved if the limitation mentioned above is met, the chances of this happening being quite small in many cases.

Just a few hours after Apple made the announcement regarding the reduction of the commission charged for subscriptions sold through applications available in the App Store, an American publication found out that Google is going to make exactly the same announcement, but with an important change.

More precisely, Google will take a commission of 15% from the subscriptions sold for Android applications, but it will not impose the obligation that the subscription be maintained for at least 1 year for the discount to apply, its conditions being much better than those of Apple.

Now Google plans to up the ante at its app store: It will also move from a 70/30 split to 85/15 for subscriptions — but instead of requiring developers to hook a subscriber for 12 months before offering the better split, it will make it available right away. Sources said Google has already been testing the new split with some entertainment companies.

Both Apple and Google have already tested the new revenue sharing system with certain media trusts to see if there are grounds for its official implementation for developers, and both companies have considered the tests to be a real success.

Practically, after the launch of these changes, application developers will collect 85% of the price of a subscription sold through their own applications, if users buy subscriptions of at least 1 year, and the reduction of the commission could be applied in the future to the sale prices of the applications.
