iOS 10 will be able to record RAW photos

Yesterday I told you that iOS 10 has support for RAW photos, and then we were talking about viewing and editing them, but today we find out that in reality the Apple company has implemented support for recording photos in RAW format using the camera application of the terminals.

Although the Apple company did not present the function of recording photos in RAW format on the iPhone, in iOS 10 there is a framework called AVCapturePhotoOutput that allows recording photos in this format and not only using the native Camera application, but also using other applications.

Including Live Photos can be recorded in RAW format using the Camera application, and the Apple company has confirmed that the new function of iOS 10 will not be dedicated exclusively to the iPhone 7, but also some old iDevices currently sold on the market will benefit from it .

Specifically, in one of the WWDC 2016 sessions for developers, Apple revealed that recording photos in RAW format will be possible on the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE and iPad Pro 9.7 inches, with future iPhone models also having the function .

The new AVCapturePhotoOutput class provides a unified pipeline for all photography workflows, enabling more sophisticated control and monitoring of the entire capture process and including support for new features such as Live Photos and RAW format capture.

Limiting the function of recording photos in RAW format to only these terminals is definitely related to the fact that they have a 12 megapixel camera and an A9 or A9X chip that offers enough processing power to record the photos and edit them afterwards.

The new function of recording photos in RAW format will be officially launched in the fall together with iOS 10, but it is not excluded that until then some applications in the App Store will offer this functionality for all those who test the new version of iOS in beta format.
