Yesterday I told you that WhatsApp shares our phone numbers to Facebook so that we can see personalized ads in the social network, but also recommendations for friends. Many people are unhappy with this change, mainly because WhatsApp he once promised that this would not happen.
Although WhatsApp wants to share our data with Facebook, there is still the option not to allow this, at least theoretically. There are two methods to prevent WhatsApp from sharing our phone number with Facebook, one very simple and one a bit more complicated, but not so difficult to do that you don't use it.
The first method involves unchecking a box when you see an alert regarding the change in the terms and conditions for using WhatsApp. That box will be visible at the end of the document, close to the confirmation button, and unchecking it will theoretically prevent sharing our phone number with the Facebook social network.
If you have already accepted this alert message and agreed that your phone number will be shared with Facebook, then there is a second method to block everything:
- Open the WhatsApp Messenger application.
- Navigate to the settings menu.
- Uncheck the box next to the option Share My Account Info.
If you have not yet received the new message confirming the terms and conditions, then you will not have the above option in the settings menu, so do not look for it in vain. If you have accepted the terms and conditions, you only have 30 days to change this option, so it is recommended that you move quickly.
