7 iPhone Plus arrived at iDevice.ro today, not in the matte black version, as I would have liked, but in the silver version, the terminal being sold to me by the evoMAG.ro, to whom I thank in this way. The unit is the A1784 model, which is exactly what you will receive today, this being the iPhone 7 Plus version that is officially sold in Romania.
Okay, now let's go over the first impressions.
Elegant to look at
The first contact with the iPhone 7 Plus will initially remind you of what you already have in your pocket, or in your hand, but depending on the color you choose, you will be a little surprised. The matte black and jet black models bring a special elegance to the iPhone 7 Plus, especially the glossy one, but unfortunately I can't tell you anything about any of them right now.
What I can tell you is that the front panel looks the same as the rest of the others released over the years, and from a distance the Home button doesn't look that much different. The case without those side stripes is much more pleasing to the eye, and the dual camera dominates the entire design, catching your eye from the moment you turn the case over.
Regarding the iPhone 7 Plus screen, it is enough to look at a few images with the brightness set to a high value and you will immediately understand why it is the best LCD screen ever used by Apple. There is a very big difference compared to the iPhone 6S Plus in the quality of the images, but also in terms of the total brightness of the terminal.
I knew from the presentation that there would be big differences regarding the quality of the screens, and at first glance things are fully confirmed.
Sensitive to touch
Leaving aside the design, what will grab your attention next is the tactile Home button, which benefits from 3D Touch, so the pressure applied by it generates the actions in iOS. I saw in many foreign reviews that people complained about the fact that the entire lower part of the iPhone 7 Plus moves when the button vibrates.
The reality is that you feel a slight vibration under the phone, if you place your finger under it, but in the lower part of the case you don't feel any kind of vibration from the Home button. The vibration feels quite strong on the button, but it has nothing to do with the sensation you feel when you press a normal button.
For me, the sensation of pressing this button is similar to pressing a piece of glass that remains fixed, only that the iPhone 7 Plus generates some actions in iOS 10. I can't say that I dislike interacting with it, but I don't kill myself either. after it and you will definitely have to get used to the way of using this new type of button, it having a settings menu in the Configurations application.
Dual camera
The jewel and the real reason why I chose the iPhone 7 Plus is the dual camera implemented by the Apple company in it. I took all these pictures in a hurry before I got home, so take them as they are because I didn't pay much attention to the stabilization to get the best possible quality, that will come in the next few days.
You can notice that I took pictures outside with/without zoom applied, almost all of them with HDR applied, except the first four and the ones with the case. You also have pictures of the new LED flash, the difference between it and the standard brightness modification system being enormous, as expected, by the way.
Performance and sound
You know that the iPhone 7 Plus has a quad-core processor implemented by the Apple company, and so far I cannot say that in iOS 10 there are notable differences compared to the iPhone 6S Plus. Yes, web pages seem to load faster on the iPhone 7 Plus, but otherwise everything moves as fast as in the case of the "brother" or smaller, so I have nothing to report here.
I'm sure that in the case of editing a 4K movie with iMovie there will be very big differences in the speed with which everything is done, but in everyday use, it is very unlikely that you will notice a major improvement in performance.
The stereo speakers of the iPhone 7 Plus still make the money, the new smartphone plays sounds much louder than the iPhone 6S Plus, and you will feel this immediately. It is enough to open a video clip and put the terminals next to each other, and the major difference in terms of sound quality becomes obvious immediately.
Before ending, I will also tell you that indeed, the iPhone 6S Plus covers will not fit on the new terminal, unless adjust.
