Bose is accused of spying on its customers and selling the data

Bose is one of the largest manufacturers of audio equipment in the world, but now it is in the middle of a scandal that calls into question its credibility. A lawsuit filed against Bose is trying to prove that users of wireless headphones are being spied on by the company that collects data on the audio content they listen to, then sells that data.

The accusations also come with a request for damages worth several million dollars, the Bose Connect application being the one through which the users are spied on. The app allows Bose customers to connect their headphones to mobile terminals to control them, update their software and apparently be spied on by the company, with Bose encouraging its use.

The man who initiated the lawsuit against those from Bose claims that the respective application sends data from his smartphone to a service called Segment.io. From there, he claims that the data can be sent anywhere and to anyone without any client knowing what is happening, but of course public evidence regarding these actions has not been disclosed by the man.

At the moment, no one knows for sure how real are these accusations made against those from BOse, but it is not difficult to believe that they are really real. Any application from a manufacturer can retrieve a multitude of data and transmit it anywhere, so it is not hard to believe what we are being told at the moment.

"Bose Corp spies on its wireless headphone customers by using an app that tracks the music, podcasts and other audio they listen to, and violates their privacy rights by selling the information without permission. People should be uncomfortable with it. People put headphones on their head because they think it's private, but they can be giving out information they don't want to share."
