iPhone 7 remains the most popular smartphone in the world

iPhone 7 remained the most popular smartphone on global markets in Q2 2017, the Samsung Galaxy S8 series failing to reach it in sales, despite its age on the market.

iPhone 7 remained the most popular smartphone in the world in Q2 2017 as well, according to information published during this day by those from Strategy Analytics. In the image below you have a table that shows us the estimated sales for the most popular smartphones in Q2 2017, and iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus occupy the first two positions, followed by the series Samsung Galaxy S8 and Xiaomi Redmi 4A.

The iPhone 7 is the most popular smartphone globally, but its sales are only 1.8 million units higher than those of the iPhone 7 Plus. The percentage difference between them is approximately 11%, that is very small, and this suggests that at the moment Apple customers are seriously turning their attention to smartphones with large screens, which have a diagonal of 5.5 inches.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus totaled sales of 32 million units, i.e. more than two thirds of the total sales of iPhone terminals. Apple sold 41 million iPhone 7 terminals worldwide in Q2 2017, so 9 million were the old models that are still available for purchase, these still registering quite good sales, but far below those of the iPhone 7 series.

The iPhone 7, despite its age on the market, sold much better than the Samsung Galaxy S8, the difference between the terminals being over 6.7 million units. Even the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus did not do better and did not come close to the iPhone 7 Plus in sales, so we are talking about a major victory for those from Apple in terms of smartphone popularity, Samsung being quite far behind .

Unlike Apple, the Samsung Galaxy S8 series would have recorded sales of 19 million units, about a quarter of the total number of smartphones sold by Samsung in Q2 2017. Here we practically see the very big difference between the sales of premium smartphones between Apple and Samsung, but also the ratio between their sales and the total sales of smartphones globally.

"iPhone results were impressive, with especially strong demand at the high end of our lineup. iPhone 7 was our most popular iPhone, and sales of iPhone 7 Plus were up dramatically compared to 6s Plus in the June quarter of last year. Samsung's Galaxy S8 has instantly become the world's most popular Android smartphone model, due to its attractive curved-screen design, a rich portfolio of software apps, and best-in-class retail distribution across dozens of countries."
