YouTube has finally launched HDR on the smartphone, the American company offering the users of several mobile phones the possibility to see video clips in a completely different quality. We are talking about the very limited support that YouTube currently offers for HDR videos, only a number of Android phones being able to play the uploaded HDR videos.
YouTube currently allows the viewing of HDR videos only on Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, Google Pixe and Sony Xperia XZ Premium. All these mobile phones have implemented support for playback of videos in HDR format as standard, so everyone who bought them will see the very low number of HDR videos uploaded to the YouTube platform.
YouTube currently offers the possibility to see these video clips in 1080p format at 60 fps, so at a very good quality for a smartphone screen. These mobile phones have implemented support for playing videos in HDR format, and that's why YouTube has implemented support for them, Apple not yet having any iPhone with such support available.

YouTube implemented in 2016 support for uploading videos in HDR format, but of course there have been few uploaded materials so far. Only TVs with HDR support were able to play them at their normal quality, but now even smartphones benefit from this type of support from YouTube, so there will be more people who will upload these clips from their mobile phones.
YouTube wants to expand the popularity of the HDR format, and if the iPhone 8 will have support for it, then there will definitely be a greater number of video clips uploaded to the platform. We know that Apple TV 5 will have support for playing video clips in HDR format, so theoretically the iPhone 8 would also offer something like that, and from it to publishing the materials on YouTube will be just a simple step for many users.
YouTube is offering smartphone HDR support through its Android app, but weeks after Netflix offered similar support for Samsung phones. YouTube is trying to increase the adoption rate of HDR support for mobile phones and boost the recording of video clips in this format, but it remains to be seen how successful it will be if the iPhone 8 does not come with such support from Apple.
