iPhone 8 – Internet Speeds Different between Models

iPhone 8 has different internet speeds depending on the model owned by the customer, those with Qualcomm GSM modem having better performance than those with Intel.

iPhone 8 comes this year with the same problem as last year, more precisely the various models of phones sold by the Apple company also have different internet speeds. Those from Speedtest published the graph below showing that the iPhone 8 phones with Qualcomm modem have better internet speeds than the models with Intel chip, but this should not surprise anyone this year.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have GSM modems from Qualcomm and Intel, Apple uses Intel's in Europe, so you can expect lower speeds than those obtained by Qualcomm. The difference is more than 10% in speed between the iPhone 8 models that have Intel and Qualcomm modems, but the average speeds recorded by Speedtest are low, so depending on the network, it is possible that the differences between the phones are higher, even by a few tens of Mbits for download.

However, the iPhone 8 comes with improvements for internet speeds compared to the iPhone 7 series, in this case the differences are up to 25% for Qualcomm modems. For the Intel ones, we are talking about an improvement of up to 10% for Internet browsing speeds using the iPhone 8, so Apple again offers different performances for its customers because of the war it is waging with Qualcomm.

iPhone 8 internet speeds

The iPhone 8 is superior to the previous models of the Apple company on all mobile phone networks in the US, but it will be interesting to see how it behaves in front of Android phones. The iPhone 8 does not have support for 4×4 MIMO, as happens with the Galaxy S8, for example, Apple limiting the phones due to Intel modems that are inferior to Qualcomm's.

For this reason, the iPhone 8 does not have support for LTE Gigabit networks in some countries, but theoretically it should be able to reach speeds of up to 800 Mbps in some networks, in Australia there is at least one. In Europe, you will be able to use iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus at speeds of up to 600 Mbps in the networks that support such a thing, as Romania does not currently have such fast networks, so we are left with something else.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus would have had great potential if Apple had not limited them because it wants to impose its point of view on those from Qualcomm. Until then, it is unlikely that you will feel this limitation of the iPhone 8 in Internet browsing speeds, but it is possible to feel it when switching between different mobile phone networks, or when there is a weak signal.
