Romania smartpbone sales 2017

2017 seems to have been a very good year for smartphone manufacturers who put their products on sale in Romania, the total value of smart phones sold in the country exceeding 1 billion euros, for the first time. Those from Samsung announced today a series of interesting data, the company stating that 4.5 million smartphones were sold in Romania in 2017, but also that premium phones generated 35% of the total receipts.

In Romania, premium smartphones, which cost at least 600 euros, represented 10-12% of total sales, so between 450.000 and 540.000 units, but they generated revenues of 350 million dollars for manufacturers. The figure of 1 billion euros for receipts is 27% higher than the one recorded in 2016, and this is because premium smartphones have registered an increasing demand in the country.

Romania: How many Smartphones were sold in 2017 and who is the market leader

Samsung is the leader of the smartphone market in Romania, but this is not a surprise for anyone, because its smart, but cheap phones are extremely sought after by customers, the low prices motivating them to buy them. The total sales of smartphones increased by 9% in Romania in 2017 compared to 2016, so we are talking about a modest change, but even so, our market continues to grow, although everyone still complains that they have no money.

""The smartphone market evolved last year in line with expectations, registering a 9% increase in terms of quantity and 27% in terms of value. It is a normal phenomenon that it has increased in value, given that smartphones from the mid and high range are increasingly preferred."

Data regarding a ranking of the leaders on the smartphone market in Romania does not exist now, but Samsung is in first place, and Apple is not in second place, the American company being beaten by at least one Android manufacturer. Apple sells expensive phones, which most Romanians cannot afford, but this is not news either, the Romanian mobile phone market being dominated by Android with a share of, most likely, 90%.

However, exceeding the threshold of 1 billion euros for smartphone sales in Romania represents an important point for our country, which could bring us earlier certain models, but also more stores of some manufacturers.
