In the USA, Citizens will Vote, in the PREMIERE, by Phone

In the USA, the authorities will for the first time allow the possibility to vote directly from the mobile phone, a special application being created for the November elections.

US Citizens Vote Phone

The USA is going to allow voting from this year phone, the elections to be organized in November following afi and the first in which this will be possible for citizens. The US authorities have tested the system in one way or another so far to see if it can be exploited, but of course no serious problem has been discovered so far.

Of course, this does not guarantee the safety of the elections, because smartphones are recognized as impossible to secure completely, so theoretically, the elections can be hijacked. For registration, citizens must take a selfie and a video clip for a facial recognition system, these will be checked manually, and then the citizen will get the option to vote through the application.

The system is initially tested in West Virginia because it cannot be used nationwide without tests done in only certain regions being done initially. No one knows what will happen with this test, but I imagine that if someone knows how to exploit it, they won't do it now, but at the right time, that is, when it will be extended to the whole country.

"West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner and Voatz, the Boston company that developed the app, insist it is secure. Anyone using it must first register by taking a photo of their government-issued identification and a selfie-style video of their face, then upload them via the app. Voatz says its facial recognition software will ensure the photo and video show the same person. Once approved, voters can cast their ballot using the Voatz app. Ballots are anonymized, the company says, and recorded on a public digital ledger called blockchain […] So far the technology has been limited to trial runs and private elections, such as balloting for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.'

I think it's pretty obvious why systems like this are extremely dangerous, and why many in the US don't think they should be used in the country, even on a limited basis. However, as a Romanian, you cannot help but look at what is happening in other countries, and not make a comparison with what is happening here, and not ask yourself why we are in the situation we are in.
