Huawei. The Chinese company is targeted in Romania by an investigation carried out by the government, announced a few weeks ago by the Ministry of Communications, but it is possible to be targeted by another one requested by the PNL. Until then, those from STS, the Special Telecommunications Service, made the first statements regarding the danger that the Chinese products would represent, or not, in Romania.

Huawei. According to those from STS, at the moment the Chinese telecommunications equipment would not be used in any of the telecommunications networks of critical importance for Romania, which is very good news. Huawei equipment is used by telecommunications operators in Romania in their networks, but STS says that none of the critical ones have equipment from them.

Huawei. STS Reveals how BIG the DANGER is in Romania

Huawei. Although in 2013 the Romanian government would have signed a memorandum by which the Chinese would have received the right to deliver equipment for the traffic monitoring systems, or the government's IT systems. STS said that it was not consulted regarding this decision regarding Huawei, nor did it support the initiative of the government at that time, but even so, it seems that nothing of what was proposed was carried out.

We note that the STS was not consulted, did not endorse that document and has no involvement in its implementation. STS is continuously assessing the risks related to the specific aspects of its field of activity. It has adequate security and resilience measures throughout the lifespan of its managed infrastructures – that significantly reduce the risks of cyber threats.

Huawei. STS also says that it constantly monitors all the dangers that can affect Romania's critical telecommunications infrastructure, and at the moment there would be no problem, at least as far as the Chinese are concerned. On the other hand, Huawei is participating in the auction of a contract for the 112 service, but I believe that a method will be found to deny its access there, especially in the current context, and the pressure put by the US.

Huawei. For now, in the case of Romania, there have been no statements by the Chinese regarding the problems with their telecommunications equipment, but it remains to be seen what will happen in the future.
