Digi Mobile. Orange, Vodafone, Telekom, BOYCOTT with HUGE IMPACT

Digi Mobile. Orange, Vodafone, Telekom are preparing for a very important boycott that will have a huge impact on Romania in the near future.

Digi Mobile boycott

Digi Mobile. Orange, Vodafone, Telekom, they are preparing for a boycott that will have serious consequences for customers in Romania, but also for the whole country, and we are not talking about something that has not been known until now. More precisely, it has been known for several months that Digi Mobil, together with the telecommunications environment, vehemently refuses to participate in the auction for 5G networks due to the fact that the prices imposed by the government through OUG 114 / 2018 they are too big.

Digi Mobil. The Romanian government has imposed through GEO 114/2018 that the 5G auction in our country should generate at least 1 billion euros for the frequency licenses that will be used in the future networks in our country. ANCOM and the telecom environment have been demanding for a very long time a change based on which the prices for the frequencies of the future 5G networks should be substantially reduced, and if this is not done, then Digi Mobil, and the rest of the telecom environment, would boycott the 5G auction.

Digi Mobile. Orange, Vodafone, Telekom, BOYCOTT with HUGE IMPACT

Digi Mobil. ANCOM needs all the changes imposed by GEO 114/2018 to be canceled by the end of this month so that the plan regarding the auction of 5G frequencies can be carried out in accordance with the discussions held with the operators. If this does not happen, those from ANCOM say that there would be an "almost certain refusal" of Digi Mobil, and the rest of the operators, to participate in the auction for the frequencies they will use in the future 5G networks .

According to the calendar agreed with the telecommunications operators, ANCOM must present in the next period, for public consultation, the specifications of the tender for the frequencies intended for the introduction of 5G technology. The authority, which did not approve GEO 114/2018, repeatedly requested the modification of this normative act. We believe that, for the smooth running of the 5G auction, the Government should repeal all the provisions related to the telecom sector in GEO 114/2018 and the express return to the provisions of GEO 111/2011 regarding electronic communications. If GEO 114/2018 remains unchanged, the prices for future 5G licenses will be in the order of billions of euros, a situation that will lead to an almost certain refusal of operators to participate in the award procedure. Any delay will alter the timetable agreed with the industry.

Digi Mobil. Those from Telekom were the first to announce that they will boycott this auction if the government does not give up that minimum amount of 1 billion euros for frequencies, and so far this has not happened. Considering the changes taking place in the government and PSD, it is possible that Digi Mobil, plus the rest of the operators, will still get what they want, but at the moment nothing is 100% certain.

Digi Mobil. It is difficult to say how long it might take until GEO 114/2018 will have the changes for the telecom sector canceled, or at least substantially modified, but it will take some time until this happens.
