DISAPPOINTING Government announcement about Roaming in Romania - Moldova

The Romanian government, through Viorica Dancila, made a disappointing announcement today regarding the elimination of roaming tariffs between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

DISAPPOINTING Government announcement about Roaming in Romania - Moldova

At the end of last year, the Romanian Government seemed to have entered into a plan that had the purpose of a completely eliminates roaming charges between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, the authorities there announcing the big change. Everything was announced just before December 1st, when 100 years of the Great Union were celebrated, on that day roaming charges between Romania and the Republic of Moldova were eliminated for 24 hours, as a test.

Then it happened that the roaming tariffs between Romania and the Republic of Moldova were announced to be eliminated in 2019, but it seems that the government in Bucharest still has no plans to contribute to such a thing. Today Viorica Dancila, Prime Minister of Romania, stated that her government supports the reduction of roaming tariffs between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, among others, so there is no talk of eliminating them completely.

Romania and the Republic of Moldova will have lower roaming rates

The reduction of roaming charges is not a bad thing either, but unlike their complete elimination, we are talking about a very big difference, and unfortunately it is unlikely that this will happen too soon. It is possible that Romania will not be able to eliminate roaming tariffs with the Republic of Moldova due to European regulations, but if that is not the problem, then it is possible that the operators do not want to give up this money yet.

"We have a common interest in interconnection projects in the field of transport infrastructure, as well as in the reduction of roaming tariffs. We will give all the support for their implementation, because we want to contribute directly to the improvement of the standard of living of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The Romanian government supports the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to advance the European path, the only option for a democratic and fresh future."

Considering that there are many citizens of the Republic of Moldova in Romania, and that there is great interest in the elimination of roaming tariffs, the decision is one that will disappoint many people, unfortunately. However, those who hoped to get rid of the roaming charges between Romania and the Republic of Moldova can only hope that this will happen at some point, although no one knows how long it might take until that point.
