RCS & RDS, Orange, Vodafone, Telekom, Worrying news for Romanians

RCS & RDS, Orange, Vodafone, Telekom have millions of clients in Romania who are affected by the worrying news that came today with the nomination of Ludovic Orban for the post of Prime Minister of Romania. This means that the auction for the 5G licenses that RCS & RDS, and the other operators, will want to buy, could be disrupted by the changes that will take place at the Ministry of Communications, or whatever it will be called.

RCS & RDS, together with the rest of the telecom companies, agreed with ANCOM for a certain calendar regarding the auction of 5G frequencies in Romania, but this could change if the new government has other plans regarding it. This could mean that RCS & RDS, and the other companies, could have more to wait until the auction for 5G frequencies is organized, or maybe the prices at which they will be sold will be changed again.

RCS & RDS, like the rest of the companies in the telecommunications environment, complained about the fact that the prices for 5G licenses must be much more reasonable than the one imposed by GEO 114/2018. That 1 billion euros was eliminated by the deputies a few months ago, but it would not be excluded that now RCS & RDS, plus the other companies, will have a bad surprise, and a new close price will be requested by the new government to cover the losses.

RCS & RDS prepared for greater investments in 5G in 2019 by increasing prices since the beginning of the year, but of course it would not be excluded that the reality would be much different compared to what they imagined. In this situation, we could experience new delays for the launch of the 5G networks from RCS & RDS, and not only if ANCOM will have changes in management, or will have other objectives imposed by the new government.

RCS & RDS, Orange, Vodafone, Telekom must not only think about price changes, or conditions for the 5G auction, but also about the fact that the president of ANCOM could be changed, as he is from the PSD, and that comes with other problems.
