Netflix is constantly looking to find new functions that it can launch for its subscribers in order to keep them connected to the platform for longer, and one that is now in full testing could generate a lot of complaints. More precisely, Netflix is developing a new function that will automatically download movies and series that artificial intelligence systems think we would like to see on our devices.
Netflix will link this function to the one called "Smart Downloads", and this is because the second one was designed to automatically download the episodes of the series we watch, so that when a new one appears, we already have it ready for viewing. The new function, currently called "Downloads for You", must be activated manually, and it will only download the content that Netflix's predictive system thinks we would like to watch.

Netflix basically tries to help people discover new content from their platform, but not only by recommending materials in the interface from which we can choose what to watch, but also by automatically downloading them to our devices. The function could turn out to be a very controversial one, and this is because not everyone will want Netflix to download all kinds of movies and series that they are not interested in, even if the function has to be activated manually.
Netflix has a fairly well-trained artificial intelligence system to guess what people would like to see, but even so, it is difficult to always correctly predict the movies and series that people would be interested in. Combining this with the fact that the content downloaded by Netflix will take up space in the terminals, sometimes even up to several GB, there will definitely be people who will complain about this function.
Netflix is currently testing everything on a small number of users, and only after it has collected enough data about the test will it make a decision about a possible launch of such a function or not.
