MOON: ESA Announces INCREDIBLE Method to Make Oxygen from Dust

LUNA has announced an astonishing technological discovery by ESA, here is what the researchers were able to do after long analyzes in the laboratory.

MOON FABRIC, the natural satellite of the Earth, is going to have a new team of astronauts sent back in 2024 who will try to lay the foundations of a possible colony that will be a starting point for future missions to the planet Mars. Before the people get there, those from ESA, the European Space Agency, have revealed an amazing method by which they can transform dust from the moon into oxygen that can be breathed by the astronauts who will be sent there.

MOON FABRIC it is not exactly at such a small distance from Earth, and in order for astronauts to survive for long periods of time, this technique can prove to be extremely useful to sustain their lives. ESA has created a special machine that can transform dust from the MOON into oxygen, but apparently also into fuel that could be used in the future for the ships that will transport astronauts back to Earth, or maybe even to Mars.

MOON: ESA Announces INCREDIBLE Method to Make Oxygen from Dust

process of transforming dust from the Moon into oxygen

MOON FABRIC it would have the dust transformed into oxygen using the melting of electrolyzed salt, this overheating that dust, forcing the oxygen in it to migrate for collection, the process being already used for the production of materials and alloys. Practically, ESA would now have this technique in its final version to be able to produce various materials that could be used on the MOON by astronauts to build objects or repair broken equipment.

"The possibility of acquiring oxygen from resources found on the Moon would obviously be extremely useful for future lunar colonists, both for breathing and for local rocket production. And now that we have the facility up and running, we can take a good look at it, for example by reducing the operating temperature, eventually designing a version of this system that could one day fly to the moon to be operated there."

MOON FABRIC it has no oxygen on its surface, so ESA must find a solution to capture the oxygen that is made through this special method, and this is where a large part of the problem lies. At the moment it is estimated that ESA will have the process ready somewhere around the middle of the 2020s, so for the first flights to the LUNA it will not be able to be used, but it could be used in the missions that will take place afterwards on the satellite.

MOON FABRIC it is not an environment that can support life, but NASA and ESA are firmly convinced that they can find solutions so that astronauts can survive without problems for long periods of time.
