Google: Impressive announcement, it will place a new intercontinental underwater cable

Google made a very important announcement today, stating that it will begin plans to lay a new underwater cable to interconnect New York with two locations on the European continent, as you can see below.

Google chose the name Grace Hopper for this underwater cable, and it will be the first one mounted between the two continents in the last 17 years, so in an extremely long period of time, it was needed for a very long time already.

Google will place 16 pairs of fibers between the European and American continents, and thanks to this cable, the data transfer capacity will increase, which will allow faster access to the content that is hosted between continents.

"We are excited to announce a new underground cable – the Grace Hopper – that will run between the United States, the United Kingdom and Spain, providing greater resiliency for the network that underpins Google's consumer and enterprise products.

Grace Hopper will incorporate new fiber optic switching that enables increased reliability in global communications, allowing us to better move traffic through outages. Google and SubCom engineers collaborated to incorporate this innovative switching architecture into the system.”
