Telekom Romania: The Coronavirus Pandemic has INCREASED Prices

Telekom Romania offered the first clear explanation regarding the price increase for subscriptions dedicated to the services provided for Romanian customers.

Telekom Romania Coronavirus

Telekom Romania is again in the center of attention in Romania after the prices of all its subscriptions are increased just one year after a similar increase was made for customers. You can find the official explanation from Telekom Romania below, and basically the Coronavirus pandemic is to blame for the price increases that the telecommunications group is now making, this may also be because it failed to sell its division in time to Orange.

Telekom Romania says, in a message published in response to a customer's complaint regarding the price increase, that the company has been losing money for several consecutive financial years, so the increase was necessary. Telekom Romania is the first telecommunications group to announce increases of this kind for its services, and this despite the fact that in 2020 it had extremely many unexpectedly good offers, with low prices for the services it offers.

Telekom Romania: The Coronavirus Pandemic has INCREASED Prices

Telekom Romania had such good promotions that it seemed impossible to offer the services as cheaply as DIGI Romania, and this is the situation, unfortunately. Despite this, those from Telekom Romania did not make a very large increase in subscription prices, and in the context of the Coronavirus pandemic, almost any kind of increases of this kind are understandable, regardless of the company from which they come.

"The year 2020 was marked by an unusual medical-economic situation, which caused deep distortions in the economy and in business relations, the consequences of which are still to be assimilated.

In this context, Telekom Romania made considerable efforts to ensure the continuity of the provision of services, despite the shock induced by the two months of movement restrictions in the spring (the chain of stores closed for the most part) and the other preventive health measures still in place in force which induced disruptions throughout the economy.

In the context in which the company registers a net loss in several consecutive financial years and in order to further ensure economic viability, Telekom Romania is forced to modify the conditions for the provision of electronic communications services and to increase part of the tariffs for the communications services in its portfolio . This change is also influenced by the increase in costs and prices in all business sectors, in the context of the current economic development.

Increases do not apply to contracted equipment installments, equipment rentals. Thank you! We wish you a pleasant day!"

Telekom Romania took the first step, but I expect to see similar decisions announced including by Orange, Vodafone, and even DIGI Romania, and this is because all companies have gone through and are going through the same coronavirus pandemic. It is hard to say whether these increases will come from January itself, or later in the year, since Telekom Romania announced that the changes will take place from March 1, it is time for the rest to do them.

Telekom Romania will sell its fixed services division to Orange this year, and the mobile services division will remain in Romania, which will be a serious competitor on the telecommunications market.
